Located at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, The University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center brings together expert researchers and clinicians from the University of Maryland School of Medicine to collaborate on preventing, detecting, and treating cancer. As part of an academic medical community, the cancer center integrates cutting-edge cancer treatment with leadership in cancer research and a commitment to medical education. UMGCC recently opened a new, state-of-the-art outpatient facility, the Roslyn and Leonard Stoler Pavilion. Located just inside the main hospital lobby, the new facility consolidates outpatient cancer services in one location and provides a comfortable, convenient “home” for patients and their families. By bringing together all the patient services and activities, we have made a unified atmosphere that helps to provide patients with the most effective care possible. With dedicated staff whose first concern is the care and treatment of patients, the cancer center strives to be warm and friendly as well as competent and efficient. UMGCC's philosophy and goals are summed up in its mission statement: UMGCC's mission is to reduce cancer incidence, morbidity, and mortality through the translation of research into prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The center's "bench to bedside" approach -- emphasizing the connection between research and clinical practice -- is embodied in the bridge that connects the clinical area of the hospital building to UMGCC's laboratories in the University of Maryland School of Medicine Bressler Research Building. Through this conduit, clinical scientists working with patients have ready access to research laboratories where they investigate cancer causes and treatments. The interaction between laboratory and clinic continues to generate new ideas and methods for the prevention and treatment of cancer. Constant emphasis is focused on the cancer patient as the foundation for our activities. UMGCC's rich tradition of treatment, research, and education, combined with its continuing commitment to making patients its primary focus, gives the center its outstanding reputation across Maryland and throughout the United States and the world.
