ACADEMIC FACULTY: GYNECOLOGIC ONCOLOGIST

UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA CANCER CENTER

The Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Arizona / Banner-University Medical Center, Tucson is actively recruiting for a Gynecologic Oncologist to join our team. Banner Health has invested in growing the clinical enterprise, with a new hospital and expansion of the Cancer Center outpatient facility. The University of Arizona Cancer Center is an NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center with infrastructure in place to support research. Our team of 3 faculty members includes a renowned surgeon in particular in minimally invasive and vaginal surgery, and a renowned physician-scientist who has also developed a clinic for women at high-risk for ovarian /breast cancer and has led the gynecologic oncology clinical trials effort. We are part of a multidisciplinary effort including radiation oncology, and pathology with prospective tumor boards. We have supportive care and integrative medicine teams who support our team and our patients. We are seeking an individual who will help in particular with growing those three areas of expertise (surgery, clinical trials and high-risk). The successful candidate will receive a faculty appointment to the University of Arizona consistent with their credentials.

Position Requirements and Essential Functions:

  • Completed ABOG-approved Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency
  • Completed ABOG-approved Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship
  • Board certified or eligible
  • Robotic training during fellowship preferred
  • Clinical research experience, as well as manuscript publication, preferred

Work Schedule:

  • .80 FTE clinical (including 2 days clinic/1 day OR)
  • Shared weekend call
  • .20 FTE Research and Teaching: 1 day/week

The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer through patient care, research and education.  Our cancer center serves as the research backbone for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Our therapeutic clinical trials as well as many of our correlative studies are supported by the UACC Clinical Trials unit. UACC shared services support other basic and translational research activities.

This is a unique opportunity for a junior faculty member in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, given the expertise of the faculty. The High-Risk program is an opportunity for a faculty member who is interested in genetics, risk evaluation and research. There is also an opportunity to significantly contribute to our making clinical trials effort successful. Minimally invasive surgery and vaginal surgery are areas of expertise here and the individual can grow his/her surgical skills under the tutelage of a master senior gynecologic oncologist.

Banner Health and University of Arizona Health Network have come together to form Banner – University Medicine, a health system anchored in Phoenix and Tucson that makes the highest level of care accessible to Arizona residents. At the heart of this merger is academic medicine – research, teaching and patient care. Banner-University Medicine values team building, quality of care and excellence. We also value an individual with a commitment to clinical research. Education of our residents in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology will also be a part of our expectations.
