Director of Research
The Research Institute in Oncology and Hematology is jointly sponsored by CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB) and the University of Manitoba (UM). Building upon the success of its unique and innovative research niches since 1969, then called the Manitoba Institute of Cell Biology (MICB), the Research Institute now has an expanded mandate to broaden the scope - discovery and innovation, clinical research, health services research, and qualitative research with a special focus on patient experience -and increase the scale of research and research training in Manitoba in the fields of cancer and blood disorders.
As the single authority for cancer in Manitoba, CancerCare Manitoba is one of the earliest cancer control agencies in Canada and is the only referring centre for patients with cancer and blood disorders in Manitoba. It is closely affiliated with the University of Manitoba (where clinical and scientific staff hold faculty appointments), major academic health sciences centres, and the province’s regional health authorities.
The Research Institute has strong funding support from national research agencies, as well as Research Manitoba and the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation and is well positioned to deliver innovative basic, translational, clinical and multidisciplinary research. CancerCare Manitoba Foundation is one of the successful fundraising entities in Manitoba that solely supports CancerCare Manitoba and the Research Institute. With a track record of strong collaboration amongst Scientists, CCMB and the University, the Research Institute aspires to accelerate discovery in the field of cancer research and lead the way in the translation of research into care.
CCMB and UM are now seeking to recruit a new Director of Research Institute who will oversee, develop, and expand the research network across the province with its hub at CCMB. In this role, he/she will lead a talented and growing team of researchers, working across a broad spectrum of research fields. The successful candidate will also hold the position of Chief of Research for and be a member of the Leadership Team of CancerCare Manitoba.
The ideal candidate will have a substantial track record of success in a senior leadership role, in the administration of teaching and/or research programs in an academic health sciences organization. He/she will be an exceptional communicator with a collaborative and collegial style that allows for the building and development of positive and productive relationships. A builder and leader of change, the ideal candidate will show prudent stewardship of institutional resources in the leadership of the Research Institute. A minimum of a PhD or MD degree with graduate training is required.
