Within City of Hope, the Center for Biomedicine and Genetics (CBG) is dedicated to leading the way in the development of innovative clinical trials and novel therapeutic strategies. Its translational science focus is to move promising novel laboratory technologies and treatments into early phase clinical studies. The CBG has a proven track record of translating science to treatments and has successfully supported numerous cell and gene therapy clinical studies by providing clinical-grade materials manufactured in its GMP facility under its integral quality systems and regulatory affairs programs. A wide spectrum of products has been produced at this unique multi-product facility, including viral vectors, monoclonal and recombinant proteins, bacterial products, plasmid DNA, human embryonic stem cell (hESC) banks, hESC-derived differentiated cellular products, gene-modified stem cell and T cells. In the past 10 years, the CBG has established itself as the main manufacturing facility for the production of clinical grade lentivirus vectors that have been used in a large number of clinical studies. Most notably, extremely encouraging outcomes have been observed in the early phase clinical studies of CAR-T immunotherapy. In addition, CBG has produced adenoviral vectors that are being used in novel combined stem cell/gene therapy trials for glioblastoma. The CBG currently has an opening for a Staff Scientist with experience in the process development and cGMP manufacturing of viral vectors, in particular, lentiviral vectors. The selected candidate will provide leadership to the cGMP manufacturing activities as well as process development and optimization efforts for the viral vectors production.
Minimum Education and Skills Required for Consideration:
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Ph.D degree in field of biological science or chemical engineering, with a minimal of 5 years of bioprocess experience in the field of viral vector and/or biological product manufacturing. A track record of accomplishments in process development and/or cGMP manufacturing. A minimal 2 years of supervisory experience is required.
- Ability to multi-task and effectively lead a team of 6 to 12 associates to complete assigned tasks and GMP campaigns. Familiar with matrix management and work effectively in a milestone-driven environment.
- Good organizational skills, detail oriented. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
