PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST/SENIOR STAFF SCIENTIST

GRAIL, Inc. is developing paradigm-changing clinical assays for early cancer detection, based on unique biological insights from high-intensity sequencing analysis of circulating cell-free nucleic acids.   GRAIL is seeking passionate and talented individuals to join us in realizing this mission, which has the potential to dramatically reduce the global burden of cancer.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Scientist to join our Development team. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record developing products or lab tests from feasibility to launch.  Strong technical and troubleshooting skills are essential. Must be a strong team player with the ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse group of people.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Apply knowledge of biochemistry and molecular biology to develop robust products with streamlined workflows
  • Planning and execution of experiments including but not limited to assay optimization and guardbanding, analytical validation studies and verification studies.
  • Work closely with data analysis team to plan experiments and interpret results
  • Work closely with clinical operations team to collect requirements and transfer tests
  • Product development under design control
  • Document work per Quality requirements
  • Supervision of scientists and research associates
  • Collaborate with departmental and cross-functional team members
  • Occasional travel

PREFERRED BACKGROUND

  • Ph. D in Molecular Biology or Biochemistry
  • 9+ years of industry experience in the Life Sciences or Diagnostics industry
  • Minimum 4 years of development experience with a proven track record developing successful products
  • An excellent understanding of genetic assays and molecular biology methods for nucleic acids and proteins
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize processes and protocols, particularly for complex workflows
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience transferring a product to a clinical laboratory
  • Experience with design, execution and interpretation of DOEs, stability and analytical studies and working under design control
  • Must be a detail-oriented, critical thinker
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with and influence others
  • An ability to be flexible in a fast paced and dynamic environment
