PRINCIPAL/SENIOR STAFF SCIENTIST

Research 

GRAIL, Inc. is developing paradigm-shifting clinical assays for early cancer detection, based on unique biological insights from high-intensity sequencing analysis of circulating cell-free nucleic acids. GRAIL is seeking passionate and talented individuals to join us in realizing this mission, which has the potential to dramatically reduce the global burden of cancer.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Scientist to join the Research team at GRAIL. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of developing innovative and high impact NGS assays. Strong technical and problem solving skills are essential. Must be a strong team player with experience to work in fast paced environment with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Exceptional knowledge of biochemistry and molecular biology to develop high performance, innovative, and robust NGS assays.
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to design and implement methods from first principles.
  • Planning and execution of experiments including but not limited to assay optimization, analytical characterization, feasibility studies.
  • Monitor the NGS space and related fields to identify emerging technologies and niches offering new sequencing opportunities that can be leveraged.
  • Supervision of scientists and research associates.
  • Motivate and mentor employees both within and outside their teams.
  • Collaborate closely with GRAIL’s teams, including our clinical, software, computational, operations, and statistics.
  • Promulgate a culture of scientific curiosity and rigor.

PREFERRED BACKGROUND

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biophysics, or related field.
  • 10+ years of industry experience in the biotechnology, life sciences or diagnostics industry.
  • Proven track record of developing successful NGS assays demonstrated by products, high impact publications, and patents.
  • An excellent understanding of molecular biology methods for nucleic acids and proteins.
  • Experience with design, execution and interpretation of DOEs, stability and analytical studies.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize processes and protocols, particularly for complex workflows.
  • Experience with analysis of NGS datasets.
  • Excellent verbal, writing, and presentation skills.
