 POSITION SUMMARY

As a Research Associate II or Senior Research Associate within the SeqTeam at GRAIL, under the general direction and in consultation with the Manager, you will be responsible for the daily operations of one of the largest NGS laboratories in the world, adhere to good laboratory practice, uphold standards for laboratory safety, and maintain a safe work environment. Daily work will vary but will be centered around high throughput sequencer operation.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define and implement SOPs to execute on laboratory processes to generate high quality Next Generation Sequencing data
  • Lead the troubleshooting of sequencing runs
  • Support training of junior Research Associates
  • Assist in scheduling sequencing capacity between internal teams
  • Handle inter-laboratory collaboration (transfer of materials and information)
  • Interface and consult on internal sequencing related projects
  • Assisting in additional miscellaneous laboratory tasks as required

PREFERRED BACKGROUND

  • B.A./B.S. degree in biology, microbiology, molecular biology, or equivalent
  • 3+ year of NGS (preferably Illumina) laboratory experience
  • Experience with nucleic acids QC instrumentation (Nanodrop, Bioanalyzer, Fragment Analyzer, qPCR, ddPCR, etc.)
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques (pipetting, SPRI, PCR, qPCR, etc)
  • Experience with Illumina Sequencer operation
  • Attention to detail, safety, and good laboratory practice
  • Ability to prioritize work under strict timelines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • General computer skills and proficiency in GSuite.
