Section Leader for Breast Program

The University of Arizona Cancer Center at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ is seeking candidates for the Breast program Section Leader.   We offer unique ground-floor opportunities to build best-in-class patient care by combining the academic strengths of the NCI-designated University of Arizona Comprehensive Cancer Center (UACC) with the outstanding care provided by St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center, the flagship hospital of Dignity Health, the 5th largest health system in the US.  We have seven active multidisciplinary disease teams, each including medical, surgical, radiation, radiology, pathology, genetics and supportive care experts.   Building a robust clinical practice, providing direct patient care, and developing the translational research programs for the Breast Program are key responsibilities of this position.  The multidisciplinary teams work closely with the leadership of both Dignity Health and UACC to ensure the growth of the comprehensive patient care programs as well as the implementation and growth of the translational and clinical trials programs.

The Breast Program Section Leader is a medical oncologist who has knowledge, skills, experience and commitment essential to the success of the UACC/SJHMC Affiliation. Our goal is to create and sustain best-in-class patient care and research programs.  The Breast Section leader will be an active partner, ensuring the growth of the clinical patient care program and the implementation of a clinical trial research program.  The Section leader should have a strong interest and experience in cancer prevention or treatment research.  She or He should be prepared to establish and facilitate the growth of a clinical trials program with a focus on novel therapeutics and investigator-initiated trials  in collaboration with the UA Deputy Director, the VP, Oncology Services Dignity Health AZ and the UA Associate Director for Research Administration.  This program should produce good outcomes for patients, and include our participating community providers/partners where appropriate. 

Requirements:

  • M.D. or D.O.
  • AZ Medical License
  • Board certified in specialty
  • Evidence of successful leadership/management experience
  • Significant clinical trial experience
  • Evidence of teaching participation
  • Acceptable references from supervisor, peer, and subordinate; from a registered nurse; and from a research mentor
  • Willing to abide by and promote the values of SJHMC and the UA.

The University of Arizona Cancer Center at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s recently moved into a new 220,000-square-foot outpatient cancer center on the Phoenix Biomedical Campus in the heart of downtown Phoenix, Arizona.  St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center is the location of the Oncology Inpatient Unit and is approximately 2 miles away.
