Senior Scientist/Structural Biologist, Protein Engineering

Key Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules and executes assigned projects; analyzes and solves problems and interprets and evaluates results.
  • Provides technical guidance to project staff, coordinates schedules and assigns tasks to reach an overall objective within costs, quality and timelines. Works closely with Project managers to track project development.
  • Collaborates with the software development team to improve and advance the functionality of in-house modeling and simulation tools.
  • Provides input into best practices.
  • Prepares and presents materials for scientific business, patent and external meetings.
  • Prepares complex reports on technical subjects, prepares and reviews patents, drug dossiers and research reports.
  • May act as a technical representative of the group in inter-departmental committees.
  • Participates in industry activities, conferences and professional research meetings and contributes to technical journals.
  • Actively works to foster an environment of effective and collaborative working relationships amongst employees, management and external partners.

Education and Experience

PhD in a scientific discipline (Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular or Cellular Biology or related field) and a minimum of 5 to 8 years’ related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  

Skills and Abilities

  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a cross-functional team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Proficiency in protein expression, purification, biochemical and bioactivity characterization using techniques such as ELISA, SPR, FACS, etc.
  • Proficiency with biophysical characterization techniques such as UPLC/SEC, DSC/DSF, AUC, DLS, LC-MS, etc.
  • Good understanding of protein chemistry and experience in rational protein design and engineering.
  • Proficiency with molecular model building, simulation and visualizing packages (AMBER, CCP4, COOT, etc.)
  • Meticulous organization, record keeping and reporting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, incorporating integrity in all decision making.
  • Ability to manage concurrent deliverables and work effectively in a challenging, milestone-driven environment.
  • Strong oral, technical/scientific writing and presentation skills. Ability to present scientific data effectively and professionally to internal audiences.
