                                         Phase 1 Program Leader

The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) Cancer Institute and the Division of Hematology/Oncology are seeking an experienced Phase 1 investigator to establish and grow a Phase 1 program at UMMC. The Cancer Institute enjoys a close collaboration with the National Center for Natural Products Research at the university’s main campus, the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS, where the Cancer Institute also supports a Cancer Drug Discovery Core. UMMC has developed a Clinical Research Support Program (CRSP) that provides management of all aspects of clinical trials and is opening a Phase 1 treatment unit in the hospital.

UMMC is the state’s only academic medical center and is located in Jackson, MS. The main medical campus includes three specialized hospitals including the only children's hospital in Mississippi, a women and infants' hospital, and a critical care hospital, along with the University Hospital and an adjacent VA facility. The campus also includes six health science schools: medicine, nursing, dentistry, health related professions, graduate studies and population health. Pharmacy students complete their final year of instruction at UMMC. There is a full complement of residency and fellowship programs. The quality of life in and around Jackson is excellent and the cost of living is remarkably low.

The Cancer Institute functions clinically almost exclusively as interdisciplinary teams. The Phase 1 program will draw from each of those teams and they will be responsible for the management of the patients on Phase 1 trials. The successful candidate will be an experienced Medical Oncologist or Hematologist with a demonstrated track record in performing Phase 1 trials. Faculty rank and appointment will be commensurate with accomplishments. Emphasis is placed on the ability to foster interactions between laboratory and clinical investigators, participate in interdisciplinary clinical trial teams, and participate in the teaching mission of the Cancer Institute.

Applicants should reply with a letter of interest and a curriculum vitae to:
