The Division of Hematology/Oncology of the Department of Medicine and the UT Health Cancer Center at the Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine, UT Health San Antonio is recruiting an individual to lead our gastrointestinal (GI) oncology program.  We expect that this individual will hold an academic appointment in the Department of Medicine.  She/he will report to the Chief of Hematology/Oncology and be expected to have administrative, clinical, teaching, and research responsibilities in the UT Health Cancer Center, one of the nation’s NCI-Designated Cancer Centers with over a 40 year tradition of excellence in development of new cancer therapies, understanding cancer biology, and decreasing the burden of suffering from Cancer in San Antonio and South Texas.  The successful candidate would join a thriving multidisciplinary GI cancer practice, and be able to leverage world class scientific collaborations and robust infrastructure for investigator initiated and population based clinical trials.  Candidates with expertise in Hepatocellular cancers (HCC) and an interest in pancreatico-biliary malignancies are preferred and will be expected to contribute to the clinical and research programs of our multidisciplinary Liver Tumor Center (jointly conducted by our Liver Transplant Program and the Texas Liver Institute) seeing a high volume of HCC.  Candidates will be expected to mentor the career development of junior faculty in the GI oncology program.  Individuals with a track record of clinical trials leadership and clinical research are encouraged to apply.  Candidates should hold an M.D. or M.D./PhD and be board certified/eligible in Medical Oncology and eligible for licensure by the Texas Medical Board.
