Associate Director/Director, Translational Sciences Team Leader

Summary:

The Translational Sciences Team Leader will enable innovative drug candidates discovered in Research to move through IND-enabling studies and into clinical trials, and work with Development to enhance clinical trial design and data interpretation to enable approval of these candidates. The successful candidate will work with researchers to help identify promising IND candidates and assist in bringing them to development phase gate decisions; lead and participate on product Translational Sciences teams (each composed of about 10 matrixed individuals) to develop and help execute the strategy to bring development candidates to IND submissions; and work with Development to enrich the design of clinical trials to enable rapid, data-driven decisions leading to BLA approval. Keys for success will include reviewing and integrating project data from Research and Translational Sciences efforts; communicating the data to key stakeholders and the impact of the data to project teams; and developing Translational Sciences teams and mentoring team participants. The successful candidate will also work with the sub-disciplines of Translational Sciences to build integrated approaches to translational strategies, and act as a key connector with colleagues in Research and Clinical Development.

Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, DVM) in a chemical, biological, pharmaceutical, or related field with 8+ years industry expertise in a Research or Translational Sciences discipline
  • Demonstration of strong leadership skills within a Research or Translational Sciences discipline and/or product development teams
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute research or translational strategy for product candidates
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with a wide variety of departments, functions, and stakeholders
  • Effective communication of project status, science, and strategy to a wide variety of internal audiences (researchers, development staff, peers throughout the company, management, executives, and whole company)
  • External communication with industry scientists and/or regulators through conference presentations, publications, working groups, and regulatory interactions
  • Knowledge of requirements and expectations for regulatory milestones in relevant jurisdictions (IND, EOP1, pre-BLA, PIP, BLA/MAA, etc)
