 Associate Director for Cancer Research Career Enhancement

The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking applicants for the Associate Director for Cancer Research Career Enhancement. 

The Associate Director for Cancer Research Career Enhancement will direct the Cancer Research Career Enhancement and Related Activites Core. Core activities include:

  • Cancer research career enhancement activities, such as coordinating travel opportunities, seminars, workshops, and related activities.
  • Processes for coordinating existing cancer education and training activities at the center, including with other institutional efforts, and integrating them into programmatic efforts
  • Ensuring inclusion of special or unusual areas of cancer research education (health disparities, global health, etc.)
  • Development of new initiatives and plans for the next funding cycle

The Associate Director for Cancer Research Career Enhancement sets the direction for cancer research  training and education at all levels including faculty, ACGME acrredited fellowship programs, postdoctoral, graduate, nursing, other health care professionals, undergraduate and high school within the SKCCC.  The Cancer Center’s Research Training and Education programs continue to attract outstanding students and trainees at all levels of their education.  The Associate Director will coordinate activities with other Program Directors and Assistant Directors, SKCCC fosters training and education in multiple ways, including participation in graduate programs, training grants, and a variety of didactic lectures and named-lectureships, seminars, formal courses, and scientific meetings.  The SKCCC is a major participant in eight NCI training grants.  The Associate Director will oversee the portfolio of training grants, graduate courses, seminars, research retreats, and fellowship research days. 

Extensive research education is offered from the pre-doctoral to post-doctoral levels for physicians, scientists, and other healthcare professionals.  There are post-doctoral training programs in basic and clinical research, cancer prevention and control, and specialty training in the various oncology disciplines.  Working with the SKCCC Education Committee, the Associate Director will ensure that our educational goals are met and that our programs are broad and comprehensive.  S/he will promote close interaction among programs in the Center with ongoing predoctoral and postdoctoral training in basic and clinical science as well as public health.  The ideal applicant to this position will be an individual with an international reputation as a leading cancer researcher and educator with significant leadership experience.
