CHAIR, DEPARTMENT OF RADIATION PHYSICS
DIVISION OF RADIATION ONCOLOGY

The Department of Radiation Physics in the Division of Radiation Oncology seeks a Department Chair to oversee all department functions and operations. Candidates must be experienced in academic radiation therapy physics, including positions with major administrative responsibilities (including in professional societies at the national level), and be experienced in the clinical application and practice of current principles and practices of radiation therapy, radiation biology, and physics.  Certification by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Oncology is a requirement, and the candidate selected must hold or be eligible for a Texas Medical License.

The Department of Radiation Physics at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center provides research-driven, safe, accurate and high quality patient care in collaboration with radiation oncologists, conducts research and technology development to advance the state of the art and provides education on the scientific (physics) and technical aspects of radiation oncology. Faculty and professional staff members provide clinical services, whereas many faculty members devote substantial effort to research activities.

The Chair will be responsible for the operating budgets as well as allocating department resources for clinic facilities, research and academic programs within the Division of Radiation Oncology. The Chair is responsible for ensuring that the administrative needs of the department are adequately defined and provided. The Chair is responsible for the performance evaluations, salary recommendations recruitments and mentoring of the department faculty and maintaining compliance with divisional and MD Anderson’s policies, practices, rules, and regulations. These functional responsibilities require the mental ability to reason deductively, to communicate verbally with individuals in various positions of responsibility, including the ability to conduct and document performance evaluations verbally and in narrative form, as well as to understand detailed financial documents and building blueprints.

In addition, the applicants should have demonstrated leadership in dealing with different stakeholders both within and outside their institution, planning and assessing programs, developing plans to resolve operational problems and issues, and managing financial and human resources.
