The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is recruiting for a Supervisory Mathematical Statistician, (GS-1529-15), to serve as the Associate Director within the Biometric Research Program (BRP) (http://brb.nci.nih.gov), Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD).  We are seeking a senior level candidate with a professional mastery of advanced mathematical and statistical theory and methods for biomedical research or equivalent education and experience.  The position provides statistical leadership and oversight for the national program of therapeutic and diagnostic clinical trials at the NCI, as well as translational research in developmental therapeutics, diagnostics, and cancer imaging.  The Biometric Research Program (BRP) is comprised of the Biostatistics Branch (BB) and the Computational Systems Biology Branch (CSBB) which consists of doctoral level statisticians and computational biologists conducting research in methods for the design, monitoring and analysis of clinical trials and related studies and who provide statistical oversight of the national program of therapeutic and diagnostic clinical trials sponsored by the DCTD.  This position will oversee the responsibilities of these two Branches and its staff.  Interested candidates should have supervisory experience in leading high-level scientists, general personnel management, management of workloads including division and programmatic priorities, as well as technical leadership and guidance in the major subject areas described within. 

The candidate will serve as a key advisor to the DCTD Director and will direct a program of study and research in the development of new methodologies and techniques in Biostatistics and Computational Biology, including research having direct relevance to design and analysis of new and ongoing clinical trials evaluating precision medicine approaches and analysis of biomarker and high-dimensional data such as genomic, transcriptome, and proteomic data.  The candidate will be expected to provide expertise and oversight in the design of clinical trials sponsored by the NCI and monitoring these clinical trials, provide statistical policy guidance for initiatives in translational research, conduct and oversee cutting-edge research that furthers the state-of-the-art in biostatistics leading to new concepts and methodologies for application to cancer research, and serve as the primary spokesman to the NCI Division leaders and the NCI Director regarding an extensive variety of complex biostatistical and computational related issues.  Provides authoritative advice and leadership in various aspects of clinical research, including clinical trials and correlative study design, and design of bioinformatic systems to support clinical trials, clinical study concept and protocol review, clinical trial auditing, and monitoring.
