Assistant, Associate Professor or Professor, College of Health Sciences

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) College of Health Sciences and the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center seek applicants for two full-time, tenure-track or tenured positions.  One at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor and one at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Both positions require expertise that enables a robust population science research agenda, and an outstanding record of research excellence as evidenced by the ability to obtain and sustain independent or collaborative extramural NCI or other NIH-type funding.   

  • Cancer Epidemiology (JPF05259):  This Associate or Full Professor will contribute to the growing Department of Epidemiology within the College of Health Sciences.  Research excellence in population level research, including genomic and environmental contributions to cancer etiology or control, is sought.
  • Cancer Control (JPF05212):  This Assistant, Associate or Full Professor should have a demonstrated expertise in an area of cancer control and population sciences that will contribute to reducing cancer health disparities. This could include a focus on community interventions, outcomes, or bioinformatics/”big data”. A focus on disparity populations is strongly desired.

The successful applicants will be expected to conduct collaborative and transdisciplinary research, maintain a strong publication record, and have expertise that fills existing gaps and enables a robust cancer control and population sciences research agenda. They will join the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Cancer Control Program and actively participate in intra- and inter-programmatic activities, including the Cancer Center’s Community Outreach & Engagement efforts. The successful applicant will also have evidence of excellent teaching and mentoring, and contribute to growing the research and teaching missions within the rapidly growing College of Health Sciences at UCI.  

Essential qualifications include:

  • PhD, MD or equivalent with training in a population health-related field
  • A track record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Current peer-reviewed funding in cancer control (Associate and Full Professor)
  • Demonstrated success in translating scientific discovery into new research directions applicable to populations at risk for cancer
  • Knowledge/appreciation of the value of population health-related research and education and the capability to help integrate research into the community and/or clinical enterprises
  • A collaborative style that fosters and supports teamwork and innovation
