Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is looking for a Chief of Palliative Care. We are seeking a visionary leader who can leverage newly committed institutional support to grow and sustain the program, and do so in a manner that advances the field of palliative care.

The new Chief will lead a strong academic and clinical palliative care team, will engage with a vibrant palliative care community, and will be responsible for charting the course and advancing the program in areas related to improving care of the seriously ill, training the next generation of leaders, and integrating with the growing body of palliative researchers conducting policy-relevant research.

The Chief will join a rich culture of excellence and innovation in palliative care at OHSU, including nationally recognized leaders and researchers in adult and pediatric palliative care, home of the Center for Ethics in Health Care, originator of the POLST, and a nationally recognized NCI accredited cancer center, the Knight Cancer Institute. Additionally, OHSU and the Portland VA Medical Center support Oregon’s only accredited Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program.

The ideal candidate will bring a vision. She or he will seek to partner this vision with our own and build upon our current strong relationships while capitalizing on his/her own creativity and personal strengths.

Fostering of innovation and collaboration is at the heart of this position. The primary areas of focus will be on leadership, program development and expansion of inter-professional education and scholarship across the institution and region, including support of our growing fellowship program.

We are a seasoned and robust inter-disciplinary team that prides itself on teamwork, education and service excellence. The current program provides inpatient and outpatient care and consists of three physicians, five Advanced Practice Providers and two Social Workers with support from hospital chaplaincy. The Chief will serve on our clinical team as well as offer mentorship to support professional development of the palliative care team members.
