YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Early Program Leader, are to: 

 

  • Design and propose an integrated program strategy based on regulatory and commercial/consumer requirements/needs;
  • Develop the Target Product Profile (TPP) and proposes updates of the TPP as required;
  • Create alternative Development Scenarios ensuring fast and cost optimized early development scenarios to first clinical proof of efficacy as well as accelerated development scenarios;
  • Define and plan development milestones including but not limited to getting decisions and Go/No Go decision points;
  • Ensure agreement on the program development strategies with the Strategic Business Unit (SBU), Regions and R&D Management through empowered corresponding Global Program Team (GPT) Member;
  • Propose alternative development scenarios with respect to risk, benefit, budget, and timelines for Senior Management decision;
  • Involve additional internal or, in agreement with R&D Functions, external experts when needed, to obtain second opinions or advice;
  • Conduct or contribute to periodic and systematic program reviews (e.g. pre Proof of Concept (PoC) Review, Program Strategy Meetings, Program Risk Management Meetings, lessons learned or Cross-Program Budget Reviews) in order to improve efficiency of drug development as well as to strive for earlier identification of critical success factors and to facilitate portfolio analysis, risk management and decision making;
  • Ensure timely and transparent and objective communications about program status and issues between the GPT and Management;
  • Represents the GPT to the appropriate decision body;
  • Be accountable for delivering programs on time, within (external) budget and required quality;
  • Drive and steer the implementation of the program strategy by ensuring resource and budget availability in close alignment with the R&D functions;
  • Proactively develop proposals to manage/mitigate/resolve risks for a program;
  • Hold GPT members responsible for committed timelines and budgets;
  • Manage performance of the GPT and its members for achieving team and personal objectives of the program;
  • Set challenging individual program-related objectives for and together with the team members to be considered in team member’s objective setting/Personal Management Program (PMP) process and assess team members’ performance to be able to provide input to the yearly performance evaluation and talent management potential evaluation;
  • Maintain motivation within the team;
  • Foster ‘trust and transparency’ within the team in order to optimize team functioning, and facilitate the surfacing of issues;
  • For program-related activities, provide regular feedback to team member concerning their contribution to the team performance to target objectives;
  • Actively seek feedback from team members on his/her performance, and on how the team interactions/decisions/meetings could be improved.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • At least 10 years’ or more of relevant professional and academic experience with at least 5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience of which 3 years should be related to drug development;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a multi-disciplinary drug development team including exceptional technical and professional maturity;
  • Experience in one of the functions related to pharmaceutical development (e.g. Research, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Dev/Operations, Medical Affairs, Product supply, Marketing) and working experience in multinational and multidisciplinary drug development teams;
  • Demonstrated evidence of leading with a strategic mindset and the ability to use business insights to drive decision making;
  • Demonstrated sophisticated capabilities in navigating stakeholder relationships in complicated organizational structures and demonstrated capability in engaging senior leadership;
  • Fluency in English in both written and oral communication skills, including ability to analyze scientific and business information;
  • Ability to represent the program through presentations and discussions in senior leadership forums/meetings and with external collaboration partners;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to effectively motivate, delegate, coach, mentor, and collaborate in team settings and with external partners;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functionally, including organizing and running effective meetings.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences;
  • An advanced degree;
  • Prior experience in Oncology.
