ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, CLINICAL FACULTY APPOINTMENT


The Department of Breast Medical Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center invites applicants for a non-tenure track, full-time academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are seeking a highly motivated and talented physician-scientist who has research and clinical expertise in tumor genomics and in developing clinical trials that use genomic alterations to improve clinical outcomes personalizing targeted therapies.

Applicant will serve as the point person for genomic testing and analysis, and lead the development of early-phase clinical trials in the different subtypes of metastatic breast cancer. Applicant must have experience in genomic clinical/translational-directed efforts and also possess a firm understanding of and experience with genomic alterations and the identification and characterization of biomarkers that predict for response to the inhibition of growth factor receptor pathways and other networks driven by these alterations. In particular, our Program focuses on the FGFR receptor family as a prototype pathway for genomic-directed therapy, as this receptor class is frequently altered in breast cancer. We have a portfolio of FGFR inhibitors that are excellent candidates to be moved toward clinical application.

The applicant is also expected to provide care for patients with breast cancer, in both outpatient and inpatient settings, and to develop clinical pathways/protocols for genomically targeted therapy. Responsibilities include clinical care, translational research and representing the department in national and international meetings. Responsibilities also include serving as mentor/advisor for research and clinical fellows and students. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and lead an independently funded translational research program, with an emphasis on collaboration, peer-reviewed funding and high-impact publications.

This is an opportunity to lead a dedicated research effort and actively engage in leading-edge translational research with potential relevance in cancer genomics and the use of DNA analysis to personalize cancer therapy. Start-up funding may be available, as is protected research time. The selected applicant should have expertise in hematology/oncology, two years’ prior translational research experience and proof of scientific accomplishments. Salary for this position will range from $226,000 to $288,000.

Applicants should hold or be eligible for medical licensure in Texas and must possess either an MD or MD-PhD with board-eligibility or certification.
