The OHSU Knight Cancer Institute is seeking an experienced physician to be the Section Chief of the Community Hematology Oncology (CHO) Program.

The CHO Program has community clinics throughout the Portland Metro area, located in Gresham, East Portland, Tualatin, Beaverton and NW Portland.

Posting Functions/Duties of Position:

This position will function as the primary clinical leader of all cancer programs, projects, and activities within OHSU Knight Cancer Institute Community Hematology Oncology (CHO) clinics. The position will also involve medical directorship of CHO and the OHSU Knight-Legacy Health Cancer Collaborative Program. They will hold a faculty appointment through the OHSU School of Medicine as an Assistant, Associate, or full Professor, depending on experience.

The CHO Section Chief will also serve as the primary coordinator of all professional activity within the CHO network. The scope of the position will encompass medical directorship across all components of the organization including: all CHO clinics, infusion centers, OHSU Knight-Legacy Health Cancer Collaborative Program, Columbia Memorial Hospital, The Vancouver Clinic, Mid-Columbia Medical Center, Salmon Creek, and other sites as developed.

The position will be 0.4 FTE clinical and 0.6 FTE administrative.

The Section Chief of the Knight Community Hematology Oncology program will report to the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute Division Head, Hematology/Oncology for academic appointments and to the Knight Cancer Institute Medical Director for all practice-related activities. 

The Section Chief will have broad authority for the recruitment and oversight of CHO Medical staff. As all staff physicians will hold faculty appointments in Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology, the Section Chief will work in coordination with the Division Head of Hematology/Medical Oncology in directing faculty development and mentorship. The CHO Section Chief will work in coordination with the Knight Cancer Institute Medical Director to develop and maintain the highest standards of clinical quality and professionalism across all practice sites.

The Section Chief will also serve as the Medical Director of the OHSU Knight-Legacy Health Cancer Collaborative Program. The Section Chief/Medical Director will work in close collaboration with the Administrative Director to co-manage the operations, forecasting and planning of the operation, and aim to meet and exceed quality and productivity metrics for the program.

They will also work in close collaboration with medical and administrative leaders at Legacy Health System, Adventist Medical Center, The Vancouver Clinic, Mid-Columbia Medical Center, and Columbia Memorial Hospital as well as additional, future sites within CHO.

Posting Qualifications:

The successful candidate will hold an M.D. degree and be engaged in the clinical practice of medical oncology. The candidate must be qualified and obtain licensure in the state of Oregon.

The candidate will have experience in practice management, budgeting, contract negotiation, and quality improvement work. Additional leadership or business training in the form of an MBA or MHA is desirable, but not mandatory. Successful candidates will have experience in matrixed, organizational structures and preferably have worked within an academic oncology setting.
