Job Details

The Director of Medical Oncology in the Division of Hematology/Oncology is responsible for: providing academic leadership in developing a comprehensive and updated clinical research portfolio in the medical treatment of patients with solid tumors; maintaining a sustained scholarly productivity in medical oncology; developing an outreach program to obtain more referrals in medical oncology; mentoring young faculty and fellows involved in clinical and translational research in solid tumors; increasing the visibility of the program in Chicago and nationally; fostering collaborations within the Department of Medicine to increase multidisciplinary clinical programs and research; actively collaborating with UI Cancer Center leadership in identifying new strategies of growth in the oncology service line; actively collaborating with the Division Chief in the leadership of the Division.

The Director of Medical Oncology will hold the faculty appointment of Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine (non-tenure) or Professor of Clinical Medicine (non-tenure), along with a Physician/Surgeon appointment. The faculty will be expected participate in the Clinical, Scholarly, Educational, and Service missions of the Department of Medicine

Duties:

  • Provides input in the Division Clinical Research strategy for medical oncology (new studies to open; positions to fill)
  • Oversees enrollment in medical oncology trials
  • Meets regularly with the Division Chief of Hematology/Oncology, the Cancer Center Associate Director for Clinical Sciences, the Medical Director of the Cancer Center Clinical Trial Office
  • Meets regularly with medical oncologists to advise on clinical research
  • Clinical Care – clinical obligations includes patient care provision

Qualifications

  • MD/DO Degree
  • BC/BE in Hematology/Oncology
  • 3 years of successful experience in clinical research in medical oncology 
  • Eligible for tenure within the College of Medicine
