Job Details

Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (SKCCC)
Cancer Invasion and Metastasis Program

The SKCCC invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Cancer Invasion and Metastasis Program.  We are seeking candidates at the level of Assistant Professor who use mammalian model systems to answer fundamental questions in the biology of invasion and metastasis, broadly considered. Areas of particular interest include tumor dormancy, microenvironmental regulation of drug resistance, genetic drivers of metastasis, cell-cell interactions during invasion and metastasis, and the effect of aging on metastatic progression. The position will hold a primary appointment in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Department of Oncology.

The SKCCC (http://www.hopkinskimmelcancercenter.org) has over 280 faculty members directing research in a wide range of fields including molecular and cellular cancer biology, cancer genetics, developmental biology, bioinformatics and biostatistics.  Shared facilities for advanced microscopy, cell sorting, image analysis, genomics, quantitative and functional proteomics are available.  The SKCCC also has robust mechanisms in place to compete for internal funding for early stage projects and a formal mentoring program for junior faculty. Additionally, researchers in the Cancer Invasion and Metastasis Program benefit from rich interactions with basic scientists in preclinical departments of the School of Medicine, in the Bloomberg School of Public Health, and in the Whiting School of Engineering.

The successful applicant must have a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D., Ph.D. or equivalent in an appropriate discipline and at least 3 years of postdoctoral experience.  Physician scientists will be favorably considered. Applicants should have a demonstrated record of excellence in research and clear potential to build an internationally competitive research program and compete for extramural funding.  Applications must be submitted electronically as a PDF file that includes detailed curriculum vitae, the names and addresses of three references, a two page summary of research accomplishments, and a two page summary of future research interests and plans.  Inquiries should be directed to Andrew Ewald, Ph.D. and Phuoc Tran, M.D., Ph.D. who co-chair the Search Committee, and sent to the attention of Ms. Donna Merz at dmerz2@jhmi.edu.  Review of applications will begin on October 15, 2019 and will continue until a suitable pool of applicants has been identified.  Johns Hopkins University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer and Educator.

Company

The name Johns Hopkins has become synonymous with excellence in research and patient care. Its science and medical programs earn more federal research dollars than any other medical institution in the country. Since its opening in 1973, our Cancer Center has led the world in deciphering the mechanisms of cancer and new ways to treat it. The strength of our research and treatment programs was recognized early on by the National Cancer Institute, becoming one of the first to earn comprehensive cancer center status and recognition as a “Center of Excellence.” One of only 40 cancer centers in the country designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center has active programs in clinical research, laboratory research, education, community outreach, and prevention and control. The Kimmel Cancer Center is the only Comprehensive Cancer Center in the state of Maryland.
