West Cancer Center is a multi-specialty, academic, regional cancer center specializing in adult cancer and blood disorder treatment, research, and prevention for the past 40 years. The Center is a leader in adult cancer care and research, delivering a complete continuum of care to more than 40,000 individuals annually across 13 locations supported by 60 Oncology specialists and support staff of 800.

Our commitment to translate cancer science into revolutionary treatment protocols is furthered by the enrollment of 500 patients in clinical trials and 4,000+ analytic cases annually. The Center has a large portfolio of clinical research studies that bring the latest advances in immuno-oncology agents and other targeted agents that reflect the best opportunities for patients to benefit from precision medicine. With more than 40 highly trained professional research personnel specializing in the coordination, management, facilitation and monitoring of clinical trial participants from Phase I to Phase IV.

Breast Medical Oncology & The Margaret West Breast Center (NAPBC)

  • Breast Medical Oncology program focuses on providing a comprehensive, integrative approach to research, patient care, education and prevention for women & men diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • The breast program sees approximately 1,200+ new cases each year (and growing).
  • The breast cancer clinical research program is robust, with 10-20 actively enrolling clinical trials including phase 1- 3 and translational investigator-initiated trials.
  • The West Cancer Center Breast Tumor Board meets weekly and includes members from breast surgical oncology, medical oncology, plastic surgery, radiology, radiation oncology, pathology, genetic counselors, researchers and physicians from satellite locations participating by web-ex. New case planning is the major focus of the tumor board and includes all stages of breast cancer.
  • In- house pathology program: In June 2019, the WCCRI launched an in-house comprehensive pathology program that is expanding to two full time Anatomic Pathologists and a full-time clinical laboratory pathologist. Pathology services as it relates to breast cancer include; breast biopsies, interventional radiology biopsies, partial mastectomy specimens, core biopsies of lymph nodes, sentinel lymph node biopsies and axillary dissections. A full suite of Immunohistochemical analyses and ISH testing is done in house with rapid turn-around time.

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • West Cancer Center seeks a dynamic, nationally recognized leader in breast medical oncology to lead the medical oncology aspects of the breast cancer program, and to accelerate clinical and translational research related to breast disease.
  • Director is expected to be an active clinician with exception clinical skills and experience.
  •  
  • This position is also responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring the activities in direct support of patient satisfaction, quality improvement, utilization, clinical intervention, and quality management.
  • This is an ideal role for thoughtful and collaborative clinician who can expand an ambitious vision of multidisciplinary breast cancer care, building on the legacy of robust compassionate care of cancer patients, their families and cutting edge clinical and translational research.

EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS:

 

  • MD or DO degree from an LCME or AOA accredited schools.
  • Completed an ACGME accredited Medical Oncology fellowship and at least 8 - 10 years of successful clinical experience with a focus on breast medical oncology; Board Certification required.
  • A sterling record of clinical practice with a strong background in clinical and/or translational research.
  • Proven ability to forge relationships with researchers, clinicians, administrators, and staff.
  • Experienced in attracting, recruiting and retaining top clinical talent.
  • Demonstrated success in building teams and coalitions across an organization with affiliated partnerships through relationship building and using influence.
  • Able to plan and meet budgets, measure and improve productivity and outcomes, develop people, and take appropriate business risks to achieve goals.
  • Has the demonstrated ability to execute plans in a timely manner and to build programs in a sustainable and intelligent manner. 
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, a medical license in the State of Tennessee.
