The Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), Center for Cancer Research (CCR), a division of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), announces a call for applications for an Assistant Research Physician (Staff Clinician), an exciting opportunity intended for physicians with an interest in translating bench-to-bedside research to clinical trials, especially focused on hematologic malignancies. LMB’s Clinical Immunotherapy Section (CIS), led by Dr. Robert J. Kreitman, focuses on developing recombinant immunotoxins and other treatments for hairy cell leukemia. The CIS also performs laboratory research within the LMB, and in collaboration with Drs. Ira Pastan and David FitzGerald, leaders of other sections within the LMB, developed the recombinant immunotoxin Moxetumomab Pasudotox which gained FDA approval in 2018.
The successful candidate will take the lead in trial development and modification, patient recruitment and care, and in writing up clinical results. LMB is a vibrant, multidisciplinary research community featuring innovative, high-impact bench-to-bedside research and close collaboration between physicians and scientists with a primary focus on hematologic cancers including hairy cell leukemia. Key skills include: familiarity with biomarker-driven study design, protocol development and patient-oriented research; knowledge related to the ethical and regulatory issues of conducting clinical research involving human subjects; experience with the collection and management of research data; and interest in community outreach and teaching medical oncology fellows.
ELIGIBILITY: Applicants should be board-eligible or board-certified in medical oncology.
Candidates may be U.S. citizens, permanent residents or possess (or be eligible for) the appropriate work visa and must have successfully completed subspecialty training at a U.S. accredited institution in an appropriate field.
