The Women’s Malignancies Branch (WMB), Center for Cancer Research (CCR) of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Bethesda, MD, invites applications for a clinical/translational tenure track Investigator position in breast or gynecological malignancies. This position is equivalent to an assistant professor position in academia.  The successful applicant will establish a vigorous mechanism-based translational and clinical research program investigating the treatment of breast and/or gynecological malignancies.  The WMB (https://ccr.cancer.gov/Womens-Malignancies-Branch) is dedicated to improving the outcomes for patients with breast and gynecological malignancies.  Specific areas of active research within WMB include:  receptor tyrosine kinase signaling, induction of apoptosis in breast cancer cells, prevention of metastasis, the role of NF-kB in ovarian cancer, targeting defects in the DNA damage response pathways in breast and ovarian cancer, and innate and adaptive immune therapy for breast and gynecological malignancies. Applicants with a strong novel or complementary translational/clinical research background in any women’s malignancies are encouraged to apply.

The Center for Cancer Research (CCR) is the intramural research component of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the position is located on the NIH Campus in Bethesda. CCR’s enabling infrastructure facilitates clinical studies at the NIH Clinical Center, the world’s largest dedicated clinical research complex; provides extensive opportunities for collaboration; and allows scientists and clinicians to undertake high-risk, high-impact laboratory- and clinic-based investigations.  Investigators are supported by a wide array of intellectual and technological and research resources, including animal facilities and dedicated, high quality technology cores in areas such as imaging/microscopy, chemistry/purification, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, genomics/DNA sequencing, high throughput screening, transgenics and knock out mice, arrays/molecular profiling, and human genetics/bioinformatics and biostatistics.  The tenure track Investigator will also have access to clinical resources including funding for clinical trials, and access to nurse practitioners, research nurses, and patient care coordinators.  In addition, they will have access to a robust clinical trials infrastructure including data management, training, protocol support office, regulatory support, information systems and technology, and data safety monitoring.  The position provides salary and full funding for a laboratory and clinical research program, including office space, budget, support staff and clinical and translational research infrastructures.

The successful candidate must have an M.D. or equivalent degree, be board certified or eligible in medical oncology or the equivalent and have a strong record of translational and clinical research accomplishments.  Candidates trained outside the U.S. will be considered provided they are eligible to be credentialed at the NIH Clinical Center.  Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
