The Division of Hematology, Oncology, and Palliative Care provides cutting-edge treatment to a diverse patient population throughout Central Virginia.  Comprised of over 50 physicians and scientists, the Division is home to a broad range of multidisciplinary programs and serves as a foundation of the VCU Massey Cancer Center.  The Chair will have the opportunity to grow and develop the Division while fostering an ambitious agenda that includes supporting the pursuit of NCI comprehensive status, continued development of clinical trials and clinical trials accrual, and immunotherapy research programs.  Key to the success of the Cancer Center will be expanded community engagement and broader geographical reach of VCU's clinical footprint in the region.

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, Patricia J. Sime, M.D., and the Director of the Massey Cancer Center, Robert Winn, M.D., the Division Chair will have a crucial role in defining the department's future, its educational programs, research, and clinical capabilities.  Contingent upon the Chair's research interests and expertise, the Division Chair will also have a unique opportunity to serve as the Associate Director of Clinical Research in the Massey Cancer Center, one of two NCI-designated cancer centers in Virginia.  The ADCR will serve as a member of the Massey Cancer Center Executive Committee that will determine the clinical, research, and education programs' strategic initiatives.

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader with a demonstrated record in research, education, and a history of innovative scientific accomplishments in a cancer-related field.  Politically astute with high emotional intelligence, the incoming Chair will engage faculty, hold them accountable to agreed-upon objectives, and foster a collaborative environment conducive to innovation, academic research, and world-class clinical care.  The next Division Chair will most importantly model the VCU and Massey Cancer Center's mission and represent the Division and Massey Cancer Center across VCU and the broader Virginia community.

Qualified candidates must hold a terminal degree in medicine and meet VCU criteria for appointment as a full professor.  Board Certification in Medical Oncology or Hematology is required.

Confidential inquiries, nominations, and applications, including a CV and letter of interest, should be submitted to the VCU search consultants, Kimberly Smith, Walter Ettinger, M.D., and Tiffany Johnson, preferably via e-mail, VCUHemOnc@wittkieffer.com or by phone at 916-536-6888.
