The Department of Medical Oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and the Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), are inviting applications for a translational investigator. The position is based in both the Department of Medical Oncology at DFCI and the Department of Medicine at the BWH and includes collaboration with other institutions affiliated with the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center and the Harvard Medical School. Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and in one of the 19 Divisions and Programs of the DFCI Department of Medical Oncology will be commensurate with qualifications, experience and institutional policies.

This position is a full-time appointment to build a translational cancer research program that focuses on interrogation of clinical data and biological specimens utilizing the state-of-the-art resources of the Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center and affiliates. In addition, the successful candidate will be encouraged to collaborate with laboratory investigators with a focus on related biological pathways as well as be part of a working group to develop a cadre of investigators who can share knowledge and best practices and in so doing create a dynamic, efficient and coordinated institute-wide platform that further advances our understanding of clinically relevant cancer biology. Candidates with advanced training in research methods are especially desired. Applicants should have demonstrated early success with a strong track record of publication and/or receipt of peer-reviewed funding and/or documented ability to create a promising research program.

Clinical care responsibility will be limited to 25% in an effort to protect time for translational research. Funding will be provided for 5 years and will include start-up support for research activities. This position will be based at the DFCI and office space will be in the Division where the successful applicant will practice clinically. The investigator is expected to participate in Harvard University courses/workshops for medical students and fellows taught in the School of Medicine and supervise postdoctoral fellows and graduate students in the clinical and laboratory settings.

Qualified candidates are expected to have completed an MD or equivalent and a fellowship in Medical Oncology and/or Hematology. Successful candidates must also be eligible for a license to practice medicine in Massachusetts.

Salary and benefits will be competitive with other institutions.
