Senior Clinician

Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program Director

The Center for Cancer Research (CCR), a division of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), announces a call for applications for the Director of the NIH Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program.

This is an exciting opportunity to oversee the NIH intramural research program’s renowned, ACGME-accredited hematology/oncology fellowship, an established world leader that has trained over 600 academic physician scientists, many becoming leaders in the field. The Director will supervise and mentor 40 participating clinical fellows, develop the educational curriculum, coordinate schedules and rotations, and ensure the program meets accreditation requirements with the goal of preparing participants for board eligibility in oncology and/or hematology and leadership in clinical research. The selected candidate may also carry out clinical research funded by the Center for Cancer Research; however, at least 50% of the candidate’s time must be devoted to the Fellowship Program.

An attractive Federal Government employee benefits package includes health and life insurance coverage, a retirement savings program, student loan repayment and relocation expenses.

The CCR is the NCI’s internal, federally funded cancer center where world leading physician-scientists are working on the cutting edge of medicine, developing clinical trials of new, sometimes “first-in-human” drugs and new treatment approaches. Closely knit clinical support teams are providing excellent quality of care for our patients and carrying out our clinical protocols with professionalism and compassion at the world’s largest dedicated research hospital on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland. Join our unique and rewarding clinical research environment.

Eligibility

Applicants must hold an M.D., D.O., or equivalent degree and be ABIM board certified in Medical Oncology or Hematology with at least three years of experience beyond Hematology/Oncology training with faculty level experience in an ACGME accredited program.  Prior mentoring, administrative, or leadership experience in an accredited fellowship training program is preferred.

Candidates may be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or possess (or be eligible for) an appropriate work visa and must have successfully completed subspecialty training at a U.S. accredited institution.

How To Apply

Interested applicants should submit:

  • A letter of interest in the position, including a career synopsis
  • A current curriculum vitae and complete bibliography

Please include in your letter or CV a description of your mentoring and outreach activities, especially those involving women and persons from racial/ethnic and other groups that are underrepresented in biomedical research.

Applications must be submitted to:  https://service.cancer.gov/ccr-careers.  Initial review of applications will begin on or about August 9, 2021, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.   Applications will be treated as confidential.  For more information, contact Patrick Miller, Faculty Recruitment Coordinator at millerp@mail.nih.gov.

Selection for this position will be based solely on merit, with no discrimination for non-merit reasons such as race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, political affiliation, marital status, disability, age, or membership or non-membership in an employee organization.  NIH provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities. If you require reasonable accommodation during any part of the application and hiring process, please notify us. The decision on granting reasonable accommodation will be made on a case-by-case basis.  This position is subject to a background investigation.  Salary is commensurate with experience.

The NCI and the CCR are deeply committed to diversity of thought, equity and inclusion and encourages applications from qualified women, under-represented minorities, and individuals with disabilities.
