Physician, Head and Neck Cancer
Tenure-Track Investigator

The Thoracic and Gastrointestinal (GI) Malignancies Branch, Center for Cancer Research (CCR), National Cancer Institute (NCI), is accepting applications for a tenure-track investigator interested in establishing a research program developing novel therapies for treatment of patients with head and neck cancer. Candidates trained in Medical Oncology who have experience treating patients and conducting early-stage clinical trials are invited to apply.

The CCR is the largest intramural research component of the NCI and the position is located on the NIH Campus in Bethesda, Maryland. CCR’s enabling infrastructure facilitates clinical studies at the NIH Clinical Center, the world’s largest dedicated clinical research complex; provides extensive opportunities for collaboration; and allows scientists and clinicians to undertake high-risk, high-impact laboratory- and clinic-based investigations. Investigators are supported by a wide array of intellectual and technological and research resources, including animal facilities and dedicated, high quality technology cores in areas such as imaging/microscopy, chemistry/purification, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, genomics/DNA sequencing including single cell techniques, high throughput screening, transgenics and knock out mice, arrays/molecular profiling, and human genetics/bioinformatics and biostatistics. The tenure track Investigator will also have access to clinical resources including funding for clinical trials, and access to nurse practitioners, research nurses, and patient care coordinators. In addition, they will have access to a robust clinical trials infrastructure including data management, training, protocol support office, regulatory support, information systems and technology, and data safety monitoring. The position provides salary and full funding for a laboratory and clinical research program, including office space, budget, support staff and clinical and translational research infrastructures.

The successful candidate must have a M.D., D.O., or equivalent degree, have a strong background in head and neck cancer biology and therapeutics, and be Board eligible or certified in medical oncology.

A full civil service package of benefits (including health insurance, life insurance, and retirement) is available. Candidates may be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, or eligible for a visa that will enable work in the United States. Candidates trained outside the U.S. will be considered provided they are eligible to be credentialed at the NIH Clinical Center.

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter outlining your experience, a current curriculum vitae with bibliography, and a statement of research and clinical interests (no more

than two pages). Please include in your CV, a description of the mentoring and outreach activities in which you have been involved, especially those involving women and persons from racial/ethnic or other groups that are underrepresented in biomedical research.

Applications must be submitted to: https://service.cancer.gov/ccr-careers. Initial review of applications will begin on or about August 23, 2021, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Applications will be treated as confidential. For more information, contact Patrick Miller, Faculty Recruitment Coordinator at millerp@mail.nih.gov.

NIH provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities. If you require reasonable accommodation during any part of the application and hiring process, please notify us. The decision on granting reasonable accommodation will be made on a case-by-case basis. This position is subject to a background investigation. Salary is commensurate with experience.
