The Division of Hematology/Oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking an individual to lead the section of hematology for the Mount Sinai Health System.

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) is an integrated health care system providing exceptional medical care to local and global communities. Encompassing the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and eight hospital campuses in the New York metropolitan area, as well as a large, regional ambulatory footprint, Mount Sinai is internationally acclaimed for its excellence in research, patient care, and education across a range of specialties. The applicant would join the faculty in the Division of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and have responsibility for oversight of patient care, clinical research, training and education programs involving benign hematology; the division currently includes approximately 120 faculty members, of whom 17 practice benign hematology

Hematology has a long and distinguished history at Mount Sinai, led by pioneers in the field including Nathan Rosenthal, Louis R.Wasserman, Barry S. Coller, and Ronald Hoffman, who currently leads the Myeloproliferative Disorder Research Program, funded by an NIH P01 grant. Early seminal scientific breakthroughs included the first observation of universal blood donor characteristics, the development of a method for storing blood for later transfusion, and the country’s first Intravenous Therapy Department, and one of the first blood banks in the country. There are currently funded programs in sickle cell disease, iron disorders, and hemophilia. In addition to benign hematology, the applicant would have the opportunity collaborate with others with expertise in malignant hematology at the Tisch Cancer Institute (TCI), a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated center. In addition to myeloproliferative disorders, TCI-investigators are internationally recognized for their expertise in multiple myeloma, leukemia, myelodysplasia, and stem cell transplantation/cellular therapy.
