The Division of Hematology/Oncology and Division of Data Driven and Digital Medicine (D3M) within the Department of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS), in collaboration with the NCI-funded Tisch Cancer Institute, are seeking faculty with expertise in applied informatics and/or big data research in the field of hematology/oncology.

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) is an integrated health care system providing exceptional medical care to local and global communities. Encompassing the ISMMS and eight hospital campuses in the New York metropolitan area, as well as a large, regional ambulatory footprint, Mount Sinai is internationally acclaimed for its excellence in research, patient care, and education across a range of specialties.

Candidates will have access to the robust clinical, research, informatics, and data resources within the D3M, the Department of Medicine, and the NCI-funded Tisch Cancer Institute. This would include a team of data engineers and analysts adept at mining data from the EHR, peers and colleagues active in the applied informatics space including with important leadership roles in EHR management and enhancement, and partnership with institutes/centers within the School active in deep learning and artificial intelligence (including the Mount Sinai Clinical Intelligence Center, the Charles Bronfman Institute of Personalized Medicine, the Hasso Plattner Institute of Digital Health, and the Clinical Data Science team) .

The applicant would hold joint appointments in both divisions. The Division of Hematology/Oncology, which currently includes 120 faculty members, is led by Dr. Joseph Sparano, and internationally recognized expert in breast cancer and HIV-associated cancers who led the groundbreaking TAILORx precision medicine breast cancer trial. The newly created Division of Data Driven and Digital Medicine, one of the first data science and digital health divisions of Medicine in the country, is led by Dr. Girish Nadkarni, who served as co-director of the Mount Sinai COVID Informatics Center that produced data-driven efforts to understand and address the COVID-19 crisis and currently serves as co-director of the Mount Sinai Clinical Intelligence Center. Dr. Nadkarni is an NIH-funded investigator, inventor on multiple patents, and scientific cofounder of Renalytix, an artificial intelligence-enabled in vitro diagnostics company that collaborates with Mount Sinai in seeking to improve chronic kidney disease detection, management, and treatment.

Position Qualifications:

  • Medical Degree from an Accredited University
  • New York Medical License
  • History of publishing high quality research in informatics
  • Training and/or expertise in hematology and/or oncology
  • Training and/or expertise in electronic health record research, human-computer interaction, mobile health, risk prediction or machine learning
  • Prior training in informatics or advanced training in data science
  • A prior track record of peer-reviewed funding is desired but not required.
