SUMMARY:

The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a full-time Physician (Radiation Oncologist). The Physician will function in the Radiation Oncology Service.
 

DUTIES:

  • Radiation Oncology Clinic Patient Assessment
  • Radiation Treatment Planning
  • SRS Treatment and Planning
  • SBRT Treatment and Planning
  • Physician works with and is supported by Radiation Oncology leadership.
  • The physician will take part in local administrative, management, quality assurance and other assignments, meetings or committees.
  • Participates in Radiation Oncology Peer Review and Chart Rounds.
  • Attends tumor boards and cancer committee.
  • Participates in Radiation Oncology Service strategic planning.
  • Provides direct clinical and administrative oversight for mid-level practitioners, physics, dosimetry, radiation therapists and other clinical staff, as assigned.
  • Serving as an information resource and radiation oncology expert for colleagues, residents, medical and nursing students and ancillary staff.
  • You will also be responsible for providing services in an efficient, high-quality, cost effective manner within budget allocation.
  • Works with Section Chief and other staff, as appropriate, supports operation issues/problems resolution in a logical, step-wise fashion.
  • Participates in a forum in which staff identifies, communicates and resolves issues related to Radiation Oncology Service, medical center and support operations according to VISN-wide mandates.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.

Preferred Experience:

  • Volumetric Arc Radiotherapy (VMAT), Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), 3D Conformal Radiotherapy (3D-CRT), Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT), and High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy within past two years.
  • Contouring of patient anatomy based on CT, PET/CT, and/or MRI image data to include 4DCT image data within past two years.
  • At least 3 years of experience post residency
  • At least one year of experience with Varian Eclipse Treatment Planning System within the past two years.
  • Completion of residency that included stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) and Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) has completed didactic course within the past two years on SBRT or is credentialed to perform SBRT/SRS at current position.
  • Experience with adaptive radiotherapy within past two years.
  • Ultrasound-guided placement of fiducial markers in prostate within past two years.
  • Ultrasound-guided placement of spacer gel for prostate cancer patients within past two years.
  • Strong interest in new technology and building new clinical programs
  • Strong interest in participation in department quality improvement projects
