The George Washington University, and its Medical Faculty Associates, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution located in downtown Washington, DC, invites applications for the position of Hematologist/Oncologist in the Section of Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant. Qualified candidates should have excellent stem cell transplantation/cell therapy training and/or significant experience clinical experience in the field with strong interest in clinical research especially in cell therapy. Candidates must have fellowship training with board certification and MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent). The ideal candidate will have experience practicing in an academic medical center with academic productivity commensurate with current faculty rank. The predominant criteria for all appointments are a major commitment to research, teaching, and patient satisfaction, excellence in clinical care, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service.

The appointees will have the opportunity to develop clinical and academic allogeneic stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy in areas of their choice. Currently the clinical activity is centered around autologous stem cell transplantation for adults with multiple myeloma and lymphoma. This new program has been recently accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) for autologous stem cell transplantation. There are opportunities to develop allogeneic stem cell transplantation and innovative cell therapies in conjunction with the opening of a new cell processing and GMP cell therapy laboratory, an expanded inpatient transplant unit and a dedicated apheresis unit.

DC is an underserved region for stem cell transplantation/cell therapy with prospects for ample patient recruitment to this growing program. Applicants are sought with the ability to develop an expanding stem cell transplantation service and with an interest in applying innovative cellular therapies in the field of stem cell transplantation. Clinical research will be facilitated by access to a state-of the art GMP unit, and the opportunity to collaborate with an active cell therapy program in at Children’s National Hospital.
