The Associate Director of Cancer Prevention and Population Sciences is a tenured faculty member in cancer population research, especially in the areas of epidemiology, behavioral sciences, intervention research or related fields.  The Associate Director serves on the Cancer Center Executive Committee and represents, at the senior leadership level, the perspective, contributions and needs of Cancer Center members engaged in population sciences research. The Associate Director will be responsible for building, strengthening, and administering research and training activities, and will play an important role in overall strategic planning for the Cancer Center. Future directions include molecular epidemiology and expansion of cross disciplinary research among basic and clinical sciences.

The University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center is a single academic unit, part of the Biological Sciences Division, which delivers undergraduate, graduate, medical, and postgraduate biological sciences education together with outstanding patient care and world-renowned research. Receiving NCI designation in 1974 and its comprehensive cancer center designation in 2008, the mission of the UCCCC is to elucidate the determinants of cancer, to develop cures for cancer, and to prevent cancer through research, clinical care, education, and community engagement.

The Associate Director will have experience in cancer epidemiology, molecular epidemiology, cancer prevention and health outcomes research, or a related field as well as an understanding of research and clinical medicine from the perspective of a health system.  Scientific accomplishments to date, as demonstrated by publications and funded research, will be commensurate with appointment at the full or associate professor level. The Associate Director will have experience in academic leadership and in guiding teams in complex academic environments.
