Position Summary  

Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, a national leader in clinical care, education, and research, along with the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center (IUSCCC) is announcing the search for applications for senior faculty to direct and expand the IU Komen Normal Breast Tissue Bank (KTB), the only repository in the world for normal breast tissue and matched serum, plasma, and DNA. The KTB now houses samples from over 4,900 donors and supports over 170 research projects worldwide. The successful candidate is expected to establish an independent research program associated with the KTB. Areas of research expertise of particular interest include carcinogenesis, molecular epidemiology, and cancer prevention. Learn more about the KTB at https://komentissuebank.iu.edu/

In addition, the candidate will join a rigorous breast cancer research program supported by the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer Research at IUSCCC. Critical resources supporting this position include a one teraFLOP/s supercomputer dedicated to bioinformatics, a fully annotated breast cancer tissue microarray containing ~600 samples with a minimum of 10-year follow-up, >2 billion medical records, active genomics projects, and a robust graduate training program. The Center has over 30 research and clinical faculty with expertise spanning basic breast cancer biology, screening and prevention, as well as first-in-human and late-stage clinical trials. Collaboration with other investigators, and participation in center and department activities is expected.

Basic Qualifications                 

Excellent institutional resources will be committed to this position.

The position includes an appointment as full-time faculty at the Full or Associate Professor level commensurate with experience in a basic or clinical science department.  An endowed chair is available to support exceptional candidates.

Minimum qualifications include a Doctorate and/or Terminal degree, evidence of leadership and outstanding academic credentials such as a track record of extramural research funding, publication, academic experience appropriate for the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, and eligibility for licensure and practice in the State of Indiana, if MD.
