Assistant/Associate Professor In Residence or Clinical X - Adult Neurofibromatosis

The Department of Neurological Surgery and Department of Neurology of the University of California at San Francisco is seeking an outstanding Assistant or Associate Professor with unique vision, enthusiasm, and experience to direct a clinical program within the UCSF Adult Neurofibromatosis, a new clinical and translational initiative based at the Parnassus Heights campus. The successful candidate will direct a clinic that treats adult neurofibromatosis 1, neurofibromatosis 2 and schwannamatosis. The candidate will work within a highly integrated multidisciplinary group to diagnose and treat patients with these diseases, design and implement novel clinical research, and collaborate with basic scientists to accelerate discoveries and identify novel therapeutic approaches. The successful candidate will become a national leader in the field publishing scholarly works in high profile journals such as Neuro-Oncology and Journal of Clinical Oncology and to give presentations at national and international meetings such as the Society for Neuro-Oncology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. This position is available at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in either the In Residence or Clinical X series, depending on qualifications.

The candidate will collaborate extensively with UCSF clinical, translational, and basic scientists and with leaders of other departments including radiation oncology, diagnostic imaging, pediatrics and genetics. Additional duties will include departmental and university teaching for medical students, residents, and fellows commensurate with the individual’s qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
• Oversee and develop the clinical care activities of the adult neurofibromatosis clinic
• Implement plans to grow the clinical practice as formulated by the department chair and division chief
• Be responsible for the oversight and growth of the clinic’s research portfolio and foster collaborative research involving faculty with other divisions/departments and join national and international research efforts
• Together with the department chair and division chief, support the clinical, translational, and basic research activities related to adult NF
• Promote health equity for patients across all categories of race, ethnicity, language, gender, sexual orientation, and ability status; and play a key role in ensuring that patients have equitable access to quality care in an inclusive environment and consistently monitor progress toward this goal.
• Lead and ensure the commitment to building a broadly diverse community, nurturing a culture that is welcoming and supportive, and engaging diverse ideas for the provision of culturally competent education, discovery, and patient care.

Position Requirements
The successful candidate must hold a MD or MD/PhD degree, be board certified in adult or pediatric neurology or hematology-oncology, and be eligible for a California medical license by the time of hire. Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission. The ideal candidate should have a strong track record of scholarship, publication, teaching, and clinical excellence. Demonstrated mentorship skills and success and experience working in a complex, matrixed environment, including the ability to work collaboratively across the various organizations, and effectively promote the program with community providers and leaders, donors, and national/international leaders in the field. Candidates must have a strong track record of scholarly achievement, outstanding commitment to patient care, and dedication to education. Ability to diagnose and manage complex neurologic complications of neurofibromatosis and secondary tumors associated with these conditions is mandatory.
