The George Washington University Cancer Center is seeking candidates for the Associate Director for Clinical Research who will provide leadership and direction, in collaboration with other members of the senior leadership team, for the development and growth of a robust clinical research program. This non-tenure-track faculty appointment will be made at a rank and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Candidates with experience in an NCI-designated cancer center are invited to apply.

The George Washington Cancer Center brings together the resources of the University, the GW Medical Faculty Associates, and the GW University Hospital to expand current research efforts in the fight against cancer and to position our institution as the premier cancer care provider in the Washington, D.C. area. Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for 1) evolving and directing the overall clinical research effort, 2) ensuring the protocol review and monitoring systems (PRMS) adhere to NCI guidelines, 3) facilitating and mentoring faculty research efforts, 4) providing medical and scientific support and leadership for the Clinical Trials Office, 5) managing a personal portfolio of independent investigation, and 6) the ability to expand and enhance access to the diverse population we serve.

Basic Qualifications: Applicants must be board certified/eligible in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology at the time of appointment and eligible for licensure in the District of Columbia. Applicants should be at the Associate Professor level or higher and have a demonstrated track record in clinical and translational science.

Specific Job Duties

  • Provide overall leadership for the clinical research efforts at the GW Cancer Center.
  • Serve on University-wide clinical leadership committees representing the GWCC.
  • Meet with faculty and evaluate the clinical research activities and trial portfolios within the various oncology disciplines, including medical, surgical, and radiation oncology sub-specialties
  • Engage cancer-related physicians to increase their clinical research productivity, as demonstrated by increased enrollment on research protocols with an emphasis on therapeutic trials.
  • Provide medical and scientific leadership for the GW Cancer Center Clinical Trials Office.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for the protocol review and monitoring systems (PRMS) of the Center ensuring alignment with NCI guidance.  This includes expanding the oversight to all cancer-related clinical trials across the GW enterprise.
  • Collaborate and facilitate with faculty to aid in the development of novel scientific advances moving GW science from the bench to the bedside.
  • Continue to foster national collaborations such as the AIDS Malignancies Consortium, ECOG-ACRIN research group, and the Prostate Cancer Foundation Centers of Excellence program.
  • Assist with the development of the Cancer Center bio-specimen and biostatistics shared resources.
