The incumbent will have a primary appointment in the Department of Medicine of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPSOM) and will be a member of the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.  Candidates at the Professor or Associate Professor level should have a demonstrated track-record of leadership, excellent communication skills, and publications in high-impact journals and will be expected to sustain an outstanding, extramurally supported research program.  These candidates should have a proven track-record in cutting-edge clinical and translational research and a strong track-record of NIH or other peer-reviewed funding.   Candidates at the Assistant Professor level should have at least 1-3 years of faculty experience in clinical care and be committed to developing an academic career in clinical and translational research. The professorial rank as well as salary and benefits will be commensurate with the level of experience.

The Hillman is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center in western Pennsylvania and one of only 51 throughout the country, funded by a Comprehensive Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) from the NCI. During our recent grant renewal, the Hillman received an overall Exceptional rating from the NCI.  We are looking to build on this success by recruiting new faculty members. The state-of-the-art research environment at the Hillman comprises 12 CCSG-supported shared resources to support cutting-edge research, as well as pioneering faculty who conduct impactful basic, clinical/translational, and population science research that is changing the way we detect, diagnose, and treat cancer.

Located in the city of Pittsburgh (routinely ranked as one of the most livable and affordable U.S. cities), The Hillman (previously known as the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute) is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center with over 300 members and 7 research programs in basic, translational, clinical, and population sciences; resources that receive funding from an NCI Cancer Center and an FY20 institutional funding base of over $580 million. In FY20, the University of Pittsburgh ranked #8 in overall NIH funding. Hillman serves a catchment area of 29 western Pennsylvania counties and provides unique opportunities to collaborate with clinical and translational research programs involved in cancer patient care, including the University of Pittsburgh, Magee-Womens Research Institute, and UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
