One area of significant investment is to build internal infrastructure to be a leader in next generation cellular therapy products in Oncology R&D. Using historical expertise in biologics engineering, gene editing and immune expertise across solid and hematological malignancies, AstraZeneca is uniquely positioned to develop the best technologies for cellular therapies and is already growing a differentiated pipeline. Backed by senior leadership, the newly formed Oncology Cell Unit will utilize the best expertise within AstraZeneca while allowing for the rapid expansion of cellular therapy research and development.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a well-trained Senior Medical Director, a clinician with strong leadership skills who is driven by science and the desire to develop novel Cell Therapies for cancer patients, and has a proficiency in the drug development process (especially early phase clinical trials), protocol writing & study conduct, data review and reconciliation, the principles of translational medicine, and what it takes to lead teams successfully. This individual will have the opportunity for growth and development while working in a vibrant environment.

Requirements:

  • Medical degree (U.S. or international equivalent) with training in Oncology, Hematology or Hem/Onc with a Board Certification or a PhD degree preferred in immunology or cell biology.
  • 3-5 years of early drug development industry experience, preferentially in the field of immuno-oncology (I/O) or cell therapy.
  • Keen interest in science and data-driven approaches to implement adaptive clinical trial designs and use pharmacometric modeling to inform dose level decisions in cell therapy dose finding studies.

The ideal candidate is encouraged to support cross-functional, matrix-based cell therapy teams on the program and study level, provide clinical expertise to devise a clinical development strategy of a given cell therapy product spanning from First-in-Human to registration, and collaborate with other departments such as clinical pharmacology, regulatory, and commercial to drive early development decisions.
