The University of Washington (UW) Department of Medicine and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) are jointly recruiting for a full-time faculty member in the Division of Oncology, specializing in clinical research and clinical care of patients with genitourinary (GU) cancers. The GU medical oncology team comprises well known leaders in education, mentoring, clinical and translational GU oncology research, as well patient care. UW/Fred Hutch is the home of the Pacific Northwest Prostate Cancer Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE), one of eight Prostate Cancer SPOREs in the nation and is a member of CDMRP Clinical Trials Consortium. Urothelial/bladder cancer research is also very robust with numerous clinical trials, some of which have been practice-changing (resulting in FDA approvals), a rigorous, funded translational research infrastructure, and a highly interactive, inter/multidisciplinary approach in patient care.
This position would be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level (without tenure due to funding). Salary and academic appointment at University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. Assistant professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments and associate professors hold indefinite appointments that both align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12- month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This is a primarily a patient-oriented, research-based position. Non-clinical time will be dedicated to developing a research program that will complement the breadth of activities currently occurring within the GU Cancers program at University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and clinical service. Teaching responsibilities would involve oversight of house staff and fellows during ambulatory and inpatient activities and delivery of selected lectures to house staff, fellows, and the general medical community; the latter is also part of our robust community outreach program. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing funded research programs related to cancer biology, therapy, quality of care, cost and/or clinical outcomes. In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity and resources to develop his/her own clinical research program. The position will involve participation in clinical and instructional/scholar activities of Division of Medical Oncology.
This position will require work to be performed on-site at a Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) facility. Fred Hutch requires all individuals, including University of Washington faculty clinicians, working at a Fred Hutch facility to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Unlike UW’s vaccination policy, which is appended below, the Fred Hutch policy does not provide religious or medical exemptions. As such, a UW offer associated with this recruitment is contingent upon, among other things, the preferred candidate demonstrating that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by no later than the commencement of their appointment. The anticipated start date would be July 1, 2023.
The candidate should have a demonstrated record and/or potential in clinical research with a primary focus on GU cancers and clinical excellence.
Requirements include MD (or foreign equivalent), completion of a fellowship in Medical Oncology and/or Hematology and American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) eligible or certified in Medical Oncology (or foreign equivalent). In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
