The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in collaboration with Carle Health is seeking an academic Surgical Oncologist to be a faculty member of the Carle Illinois College of Medicine and to help grow the surgical oncology programs at Carle Health and the Carle Cancer Institute in Urbana, Illinois. This position will be 50% clinical and 50% academic/research with paid protected time for research.

The candidate will be supported to develop relationships and collaborate with the existing researchers at Carle and at the University of Illinois, to attract intramural and extramural funding, and develop hypothesis driven research protocols. The candidate would practice at Carle Foundation Hospital in a multi-disciplinary setting with a weekly Upper GI Tumor Board, outpatient clinics at Carle Cancer Institute in Urbana and strong support from Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Advanced GI Endoscopy and Interventional Radiology with an opportunity for multidisciplinary collaboration for management of liver cancers. The position would also be supported for call coverage from Carle General Surgery Service at Carle Foundation Hospital.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be an MD/DO, be BC in Surgery and be fellowship-trained in surgical oncology. Training/interest in minimally invasive surgery preferred.
  • Record of experience and accomplishment should be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and have a clinical focus on the surgical management of patients with upper GI malignancies (pancreas, liver, biliary tract, stomach) and soft tissue sarcomas.
  • Candidates must have a track record of federally funded research and leading research teams.
