Faculty Positions for Biobehavioral Researchers in Cancer
The Biobehavioral Cancer Control Program of the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center (The Hillman) is conducting a search for exceptional new faculty with expertise and experience conducting impactful research focused on behavioral factors in cancer. Candidates at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor will be considered, based upon experience.
The goal of the Biobehavioral Cancer Control Program is to reduce the burden of cancer across all phases of the cancer control continuum, from cancer risk through survivorship, via research centered on behavioral factors and the patient/person experience. https://hillmanresearch.upmc.edu/research/programs/biobehavioral-cancer-control/
We seek candidates with outstanding records of previous research productivity and exceptional prospects for leading future groundbreaking research, investigating the public health impact and mechanisms underlying the effects of behavioral factors across the cancer control continuum. Required qualifications are a doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, MD, DrPH) in a relevant discipline and experience in cancer research or research in a related field. Candidates should have a record of research excellence appropriate for rank. Candidates with potential collaborative interests with ongoing research at The Hillman are preferred. Desired qualifications for full or associate professor ranks include a record of service, teaching experience, and a record of training graduate and/or postdoctoral scholars.
The Hillman is strongly supported by UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences. The Hillman Foundation recently committed a large amount of continued support for our Center over the next 10 years. With our re-naming as UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, a new director of our center, and expansion of space for Hillman researchers, Hillman is unified and supportive of cancer research, prevention, and therapy. The Hillman is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated comprehensive cancer center in western Pennsylvania and one of only 51 throughout the country funded by a Comprehensive Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) from the NCI. During our recent grant renewal, the Hillman received an overall Exceptional rating from the NCI. The state-of-the-art research environment at the Hillman comprises 12 CCSG-supported shared resources to support cutting-edge research, as well as pioneering faculty who conduct impactful basic, clinical/translational, and population science research that is changing the way we prevent, detect, diagnose, and treat patients with cancer, and improve the lives of cancer survivors.
Located in the city of Pittsburgh (routinely ranked as one of the most livable and affordable U.S. cities), The Hillman is an NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center with over 300 members and 7 research programs in basic, translational, clinical, and population sciences; resources that receive funding from an NCI Cancer Center, and an FY20 institutional funding base of over $580 million. In FY20, the University of Pittsburgh ranked #8 in overall NIH funding. The Hillman serves a catchment area of 29 western Pennsylvania counties and provides unique opportunities to collaborate with clinical and translational research programs involved in cancer patient care, including the University of Pittsburgh, Magee-Women’s Research Institute, and UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
