Physician Scientist in Radiation Oncology

The Division of Radiation Therapy in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Stanford University seeks a board eligible or board certified radiation oncologist with either a MD/PhD or a MD to join the Department as an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the University Tenure Line. This position is ideally suited for a physician-scientist with a translational research focus, where the majority of their time/effort will be allocated to laboratory-based research, with some commitment to clinical care and teaching.

The successful applicant is expected to develop an academic laboratory-based program relevant to the field of radiation therapy (e.g. cancer biology, radiation biology, immunology, cancer genomics, bioinformatics, etc.). Applicants will have completed their residency in an ACGME accredited program and ideally have their California medical license by the starting date. Demonstration of significant clinical experience is expected. The area of clinical focus will be determined by the programmatic needs of the Department, as well as the area of expertise in the case of established investigators. Experience in multi-modality treatment planning (e.g. PET, 4D CT, MRI), image guided radiotherapy (IGRT), and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) is desired.

The candidate must have achieved (or, in the case of Assistant Professors, have the promise to achieve) true distinction in scholarship. Faculty rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The successful applicant will spend a portion of time in clinical radiation therapy and teaching graduate students, research-oriented medical students, and radiation oncology residents and fellows.

The predominant criterion for this position is a major commitment to research and teaching. The activities of the Department are diverse and include a strong basic science and translational research programs. The Department is tightly integrated into the medical school and university and leads a Radiation Biology research program within the Stanford Cancer Institute, a National Cancer Institute Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
