Summary:

The Director, Research Project Management will be leading the Research Project Management Team within SOPM (Strategy, Operations and Program Management) focusing on building Seagen internal discovery portfolio to support the Research goals. They will report to the Head of SOPM and will manage a group of 5-7 project managers. The Director is expected to expand the Project Management Team and oversee execution of the internal pipeline projects in all stages. They will liaison with Group Heads in Therapeutic Discovery and Core Functions, and RLT (Research Leadership Team) for execution of discovery projects to meet Research goals including milestone deliverables and INDs. They will also closely coordinate with Portfolio Management & Analytics, External Innovation Groups within SOPM ensuring consistent and best practices applied across Research. 

Principal Responsibilities: 

  • Lead cross-functional Research teams through tactical execution of project plans 
  • Guide project teams to proactively anticipate challenges and define solutions 
  • Collaborate with partnering groups within and outside Research such as Translational Sciences, Tech Dev, Clin Dev, IP, Regulatory to ensure critical path activities are identified and prioritized to achieve program objectives and milestones 
  • Contribute to the development of program strategy and to defining clear go/no-go criteria for Research through discovery research phase projects as well as early and late clinical stage projects 
  • Document key team information, decisions, actions, key modifications to scope, resources, timelines, and milestones and ensure project management systems are up to date (MS Project, Smart Sheet, etc.) 
  • Actively track leading indicators of teams' progress towards reaching major milestones Monitor performance vs. plan (e.g., timeline, goals) 
  • Coordinate program updates to Sr. Management proactively and in timely manner 
  • Ensure appropriate coordination of material/test article need using project/portfolio tracking tools for the project teams 
  • Lead introducing and implementing project management related strategic initiatives that will improve how Research Project Management team works and impact the overall Research project teams 
  • Collaborate with Portfolio Management & Analytics team within SOPM for process improvement initiatives to accelerate project timelines and phase transitions, incorporate strategic option analysis and risk management into project strategy/plans and foster high performance teams 
  • Manage junior project managers and mentor the team members 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or health related field required. Advanced science degree preferred 
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry with at least 8 years of experience specifically in program management 
  • Minimum 5 years of people management experience 
  • Experience in Discovery research and early-stage Oncology projects. Late-stage oncology drug development experience preferred 
  • In-depth knowledge of the drug discovery and clinical development process 
  • Strong managerial and mentoring ability with a clear vision to lead team members on challenging tasks and complex issues 
  • Highly motivated and able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.   

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or health related field required. Advanced science degree preferred (MS, PhD, MBA, PharmD) 
  • Experience in Discovery research and early-stage Oncology projects. Late-stage oncology drug development experience preferred 
  • PMP certification

The hiring pay range for this position is $196,000 to $253,000 per year based on skills, education and experience relevant to the role. Other components of total compensation include a competitive equity grant at the time of hire (with additional annual grants, and grants upon promotion when applicable), and an annual bonus.
