Executive Medical Director
The Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute and Cancer Services

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health (LG Health) and the Abramson Cancer Center, in partnership with Korn Ferry, invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of Executive Medical Director, The Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute (ABBCI) and Cancer Services.

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health (LG Health), a member of the University of Pennsylvania Health System (Penn Medicine) since 2015, is an 805-licensed bed health system with a comprehensive network of care encompassing four hospitals, 23 outpatient centers, and more than 70 primary care, medical, and surgical specialty practices. Their membership in Penn Medicine brings together the strengths of a world-renowned, not-for-profit academic medical center and a nationally recognized, not-for-profit community health care system. As part of LG Health, the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute (ABBCI) brings together clinical experts, advanced treatments and technology, and a vast array of services to support patients and families. Dedicated to every major type of cancer, ABBCI’s commitment to advanced medicine gives the Lancaster community direct access to revolutionary treatments, such as CAR T-cell immunotherapy, and ABBCI was the first community-based cancer center in the nation to administer CAR T, and more recently, a new Proton Therapy Center, which opened its doors in the Fall of 2022, becoming just the second site in Pennsylvania to offer the innovative radiation therapy to cancer patients. ABBCI’s experts work closely and collaboratively with the teams at the Abramson Cancer Center as part of their ongoing commitment to bring advanced medicine to the Lancaster community and beyond.

ABBCI has been led by Randall A. Oyer, MD, FACCC, who has been serving as the Executive Medical Director since 2006. Under Dr. Oyer’s leadership, ABBCI has garnered national recognition and is considered one of the premier community cancer centers in the country. Further, ABBCI was a top performer in the Oncology Care Model (OCM), the bundled care pilot established by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI). A national search is underway to identify his successor who will continue to expand and integrate cancer services as well as clinical research across south central Pennsylvania through the Penn Medicine Cancer Network.

Reporting to the Chief Physician Executive of LG Health and the Deputy Director of Clinical Services at the Abramson Cancer Center of Penn Medicine, the Executive Medical Director of the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute and Cancer Services is responsible for the safety, reliability, system integration, and equitable clinical impact of inpatient and outpatient cancer care across LG Health. They will serve as the primary Cancer Service Line liaison for LG Health cancer services to advance cancer care not only in the Lancaster community, but across Penn Medicine in partnership with their colleagues at the Abramson Cancer Center, one of the nation’s foremost leaders in cancer research, patient care, and education.

The Executive Medical Director will work closely and collaboratively with their Dyad Partner, LG Health Executive Leadership, ABBCI’s Oncology Physician Leaders, all Specialty and Sub-Specialty Programs, and the Leadership at the Abramson Cancer Center to provide exceptional cancer care built on a National Cancer Institute model. Further, the Executive Medical Director will be a highly respected oncology physician and critical steward for an organizational climate and culture which supports and values diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and who is committed to delivering hands-on, personalized cancer care that reflects the community values of ABBCI and LG Health and the system values of Penn Medicine. The ideal candidate will have earned an MD or MD/PhD, be board certified in one or more oncology specialties and/or sub-specialties and be eligible for licensure in the state of Pennsylvania. An MBA, MHA, MS, or other relevant advanced degree is additive, but not required.

Korn Ferry is assisting ABBCI, LG Health, and the Abramson Cancer Center with this important recruitment. Applications should include a detailed curriculum vitae and a letter of interest. To ensure full consideration, inquiries, nominations, and applications should be submitted electronically, in confidence, to tara.vittese@kornferry.com
