We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Hematology/Oncology Staff Physician to join our team. The Hematology/Oncology section has 5 full time attendings with corresponding faculty appointments with UCI, a fellowship program, Infusion Center, Nurse Practitioners, Care Coordinators, on-site surgical specialties and radiation oncology, tumor boards, a cancer clinical trials program, a Cancer Committee and Program, and Cardio-Oncology, Surveillance and Survivorship Clinics. We provide expert care and treatment to veterans with hematologic and oncologic conditions, including diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up care. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care. Participate in tumor boards, case conferences, and other multidisciplinary forums to discuss complex cases while remaining abreast of the latest advancements in hematology and oncology. Administrative responsibilities include supervision of trainees, adherence to quality measures, academic and research collaboration with UCI and the encouragement of pursuing academic endeavors of choice.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am-4:30pm (Flexible Agendas)

Practice Environment: Inpatient/Outpatient clinic setting, Panel size, 5 Full-Time Staff Physicians, 12-Fellow training program, 12-Station infusion Center, NPs, RN Care Coordinators, Radiation Oncology, Tumor Boards and Lung Cancer Programs.  

Call Coverage: Second on call (fellow is always first on call) on hematology/oncology consult service, likely around 12 weeks/year.         

Academic Affiliations: University of California Irvine (UCI), Irvine, California.

Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen Must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completed Residency Training. Board Certified or Board Eligible in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology. Recent or upcoming new grads welcomed!.

Competitive Salary Range: Starting annual salary $360,000-$370,000.

Pension: Your basic annuity is computed based on your length of service and “high-3” average salary and become vested in the Federal Employee Retirement System, Basic/Defined Benefit pension after only five years of creditable civilian service. Thrift Savings Plan (Federal 401k Equivalent) 5 % agency match: TSP lets you contribute up to $22,500 (or as specified each year) to your account. Become vested after only 3 years of creditable civilian service. Survivor benefits: Become eligible for survivor benefits after 10 years of service. Annual Leave (Paid Time Off): You will receive 208 hours or approximately 26 days of annual leave a year. Paid vacation, unlimited accumulated paid sick leave and 11 paid federal holidays accrue right away. Continuing education: As a VA physician, you can earn CME credits at no cost. You can receive $1,000 annually and five days or more of paid absences to attend CME courses (conditions apply). Credit for military service: Have you earned service credits from your time in military service? Don’t worry — if you move to a federal job at VA, you may carry over service time that is added to your total years of work for retirement purposes.
