Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD)
Physician Position

The National Cancer Institute is recruiting for a Physician in the Clinical Investigations Branch (CIB) with experience in the conduct of clinical research for adults with cancer.  The CIB is part of the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP), Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD), which is an extramural division of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH).  The CTEP is responsible for coordination of the disease-oriented clinical trials research development program of the DCTD, NCI.  Candidates must have an active medical license and have a clinical background and training in a relevant oncology sub-specialty (such as medical, radiation, gynecologic, or surgical oncology, etc.), as well as experience of phase 1,2, and 3 clinical trials, cancer biology, pharmacology, and clinical trial designs.

Within CTEP, CIB oversees the development and evaluation of multi-modality anticancer therapies through the sponsorship of clinical trials.  As such, it is responsible for the majority of extramural, NCI-sponsored cancer treatment clinical trials conducted in the United States. It does this largely through interactions with investigators within NCI-sponsored Clinical Trials Networks, as well as other clinical trial organizations and consortia.  In addition, in conjunction with other components of CTEP, the CIB participates in developing the research projects preparatory to Phase III studies, including Phase I, II, pilot and laboratory-translational trials.  The position requires extensive interaction with the CTEP Investigational Drug Branch (IDB), DCTD Cancer Imaging Program (CIP), DCTD Cancer Diagnosis Program (CDP), extramural and intramural clinical investigators, NCI-sponsored Clinical Trials Networks, and other NCI Divisions.  Opportunities for continued patient care, teaching, and direct participation in clinical research are also available.

This is an exploratory ad to gauge interest and develop a possible candidate pool.  A vacancy announcement (VA) for a Physician (Clinical), GP-602-15, will be posted on WWW.USAJOBS.GOV  at a later date.

This is a full-time government position in Rockville, Maryland. Candidates must be U.S. citizens. Compensation for this position is commensurate with the individual’s qualifications as permitted within Federal Government appointments.
