DIVISION CHIEF FOR HEMATOLOGY AND BLOOD AND MARROW TRANSPLANTATION
The UK College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine seeks a visionary leader as the next Division Chief for Hematology and Blood and Marrow Transplantation. Exceptional accomplishments as a clinician and academician will prepare the candidate for success in guiding a busy clinical practice and supporting growing academic careers. The Division will practice in the brand-new ambulatory Markey Comprehensive Cancer Center slated to open in 2027. The Division Chief reports directly to and serves at the pleasure of the Department Chair and collaborates closely with the Markey Cancer Center Director and other leaders across UK HealthCare and the College of Medicine.
The Division Chief will be responsible for the success of the division across all missions, and guide the strategy during this time of rapid growth expanding CAR T and cellular therapy programs. The incoming Chief will receive an endowed chair, sizable endowment funds, protected administrative time, and competitive salary. A robust research package & space will be available for an investigator with an active research portfolio. A cancer center leadership role may also be available for the next leader.
The Chief must have a record of achievement in academic medicine in hematology and blood and marrow transplantation. Exceptional accomplishments as a clinician and academician will prepare the candidate for success in guiding a busy clinical practice and supporting growing academic careers. The predominant criteria for appointment as chief include emotional intelligence, and a proven ability to deliver excellent patient care while training future leaders in blood cancers and related disorders. The successful candidate will be a prominent academic leader with an established record of excellence in clinical care, research, clinical education, and mentorship.
The successful candidate should demonstrate strong leadership skills as a listener, decision-maker, humanist, and be an effective advocate for the faculty, the division, and the department. The candidate will be highly collaborative, demonstrate integrity, and foster the trust of colleagues and the broader university faculty. The successful applicant will be an effective communicator. Prior administrative experience as a Division Chief or Program Director is preferred.
The College of Medicine, open since 1960, comprises 25 basic science and clinical departments, and more than 1,300 faculty members. In recent years the College of Medicine has put a heavy focus on research with total research funding exceeding $211 million including more than $99 million in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding.
