The Division of Hematology-Oncology and Blood & Marrow Transplantation within the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa-Carver College of Medicine and the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking to hire a physician-scientist for an appointment as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in the tenure or clinical track (non-tenure track). The applicant would serve as the first Director of Medical Oncology Outcomes Research. Salary is based on experience and qualifications.
The Director of Medical Oncology Outcomes Research will employ a multi-faceted approach to analyze outcomes data from a clinical and patient experience centered perspective. Engaging pharmacy, providers, and researchers in the resolution of complex issues, recommending, and implementing outcomes-based treatment models. Prioritize resources and research activities within the process of managing patterns of care in clinical practice.
The successful candidate must have an MD degree or equivalent and must be able to demonstrate evidence of advanced training in the areas of medical oncological and outcomes research including expertise in health economics research, epidemiology, biostatistics, cost- effectiveness, shared medical decision making, or another related methodology. In addition, candidates must have evidence of a commitment to clinical teaching, clinical research, and patient care experience in medical oncology. Completion of an ACGME-accredited Residency Program is required. Demonstrated experience promoting a diverse workforce/academic environment is also required. Individuals hired at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher are expected to have a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and an established track record of independent research funding. The successful candidate must be authorized to work in the U.S. Candidates with a history of successful mentorship would be preferred.

The success candidate will work closely with the Division Director of Hematology-Oncology and Blood & Marrow Transplantation along with the Director and leadership of University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center to expand the research enterprise across the full-range of cancer outcomes research.

The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center that collaborates closely with the College and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A particular strength of the program is a growing portfolio of investigator-initiated and phase I trials including many based on research being conducted in University of Iowa laboratories.
